For months I have been hearing stories about D-Nice doing his DJ thing in NYC. Dude is on his grind, hitting up club after club. I laughed to myself each time I received a new flyer each week shouting out a new location. My immediate thoughts were, "Damn D, stop being a nomad. Don't make it hard for the people to come hear you spin. Settle down". My words fell on deaf ears because the trend continued to the point where I think that D-Nice has spun at EVERY SINGLE CLUB IN NYC (2x).

If you've seen Meet The Fockers, then you'll understand what I mean when I say that I'm one of the people who is in D's Inner Circle. I remember when the dude was the website guru, then he was the hip-hop photographer (I named him D Panicolli), then he had the biggest brainstorm of them all, D-Nice the DJ. There were a few missteps in between those ventures, but D is my man so I won't blow him up like that. Anyway, I remember the baby steps, the hilarious encounters at shows, the non-payments, the no shows etc... There have been many occasions where D has provided me with the laugh of the day as he explained his adventures the previous night.

While all of this was going on, I had to make moves myself that took me out of the big apple... so although I was there during the planning stages - I didn't get to see the execution of the plan.

Fast Forward 1 year and 2 states later (I recently moved from California to Georgia) and I keep hearing about D-Nice the DJ. At first I was like, this dude is just talking. I mean seriously - have you ever heard ANYBODY say, "Yo Dog, I did a show tonight and I was wack as fuck!"? But I started hearing about this guy from OTHER PEOPLE! People who I know and whose opinions I respect. I was like ok, D is starting to make noise. That's a good look.

Recently, I started getting a different kind of report on D. Now it seemed like people was going a little overboard in their praises. I mean, I'm from BROOKLYN and there's a simple code of ethics there:DON'T RIDE NOBODY'S D*CK - NO MATTER WHAT HE DOES! People were starting to jock, sounding like FANS! I had to tell a few of my friends to "STAND UP AND GET YOUR COMPOSURE" lol. I ain't gonna blow them up but D knows who they are.

Finally... the last straw was last week. D informed me that he would be coming to the ATL to spin for the first time, and he forwarded me the information. I almost regurgitated after I read the first line... "There is one DJ who has the whole NEW YORK ON TILT! Legendary DJ D-Nice will be in Atlanta on Friday" That was it! I was like I don't care what's on my schedule for Friday night, I have to see hear dude DJ MYSELF to see what is going on to make people act like this.

I'm not going to get into the fact that I personally picked up the world famous DJ from the airport at 8:00 a.m. and we should just skip over the fact that after I gave him a tour of the So So Def studio, he beat me in both basketball and FOOSBALL (*I only saw Foosball on Friends... but it was apparent that D-Nice had years of training).

I had my first inclination that D-Nice the DJ had arrived when I saw the 4 Star hotel that he was staying in. While other so-called DJ's were booked in the Doubletree D-Nice was laid out in the Grand Hyatt (on the 23rd floor no less), where he was looking down on the competition for real from his room.

We arrived at the spot... it was packed outside... it was packed inside. The house DJ relinquished the set to D and so it began.

D-NICE began this weird twitching convulsing like shake and proceeded to ROCK THE HOUSE FOR 3 HOURS STRAIGHT! NON STOP! NO BREAKS!

Yo! This dude was going from hip hop to 80's songs to reggae to rock IN ONE SET! I was like "whoa!This dude is serious"!

The highlight of the night had to be when D played like 15 minutes of old school hip hop KILLING IT! I knew where he was going with it. I made my way to the DJ booth to tell him and right when I got there - this dude transformed from DJ D-NICE to D-NICE THE MC! The crowd went BESERK! It felt like a Beatles concert! I was bugging! These chicks rushed the stage/DJ booth with their hands flailing screaming "WE LOVE YOU D-NICE"! This dude performd the first verse of his legendary hit Call Me D-Nice.
