The Legends of Hip-Hop 2

I attended the "Fresh Fest 2005" old school hip-hop concert last Friday night in New York City. The event featured performances by Nice & Smooth, Chubb Rock, Joe Ski Love, Dana Dane, Sugar Hill Gang, Biz Markie, Whodini, Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick. During Dana Dane's set, hot producer Kwame and I jumped on stage and performed. I wasn't able to stay long because I had my Friday night party at the Canal Room to prepare for. I'm not going to write a long journal entry about the event. This time, I will let the images tell the story of what went on backstage.

All photographs are from the Fresh Fest 2005 concert in New York City. Feel free to leave your comments.

Good luck with all that u do! I'm happy to see that HIP HOP has not destroyed you like it has so many others.

Hey D-----Will the real Hip-Hop please stand up???? And so you have!!!Its so nice to see you here on the World Wide Web!!!All this noise they are putting out now cant even come close to true hip-hop. Thanks for the updated photos on some of my most favorite "REAL ARTISTS" and its nice to see you after such a long time. God Bless you!!!!

i miss you at the fresh fess 2005 , peace dee nice from ya old friend STEZO!

What's up D? The Journal is too dope! Keep up the great work. PEACE!!

True music & performers never die out. It'd be nice if they'd put on shows out here in the Cali. I grew up with this shit...buying their records, blasting it at the park, at jr high, at home...wherever. I always had a mixtape in my pocket. Don't stop and it wont stop.

D-Nice, Whodini, Cool V, Biz Markie, Big Daddy Kane etc... as old school.... I never would have imagined that the day would be here and I would be considered "Old School." But, I thank God for letting me live to see the day. I enjoyed all of the origniators of Hip Hop/Rap from back in the day. Keep on "rockin the mic" and "throwin' ya hands in the air" because we still follow and love your music. Peace!

This is Hot D.
I always wanted to know how you were doing and other's like Greg Nice...I'm glad I can see that everyone is fine. keep up the good work.

I love to see respect given to pioneers, your site is hot, let's exchange links, my site is www.thabocks.com

yo this is crazy!!this is crazy!!! word p,son??!! where you been? man, "my name.."jus took me back to j high..lol. seeing the fotos with greg nice, chubb and all the legends featured just makes me remember what hip hop used to be..how it was once all about the flow and the beat and hype was just the first name of the hottest video maker..lol keep your head up, fam..thats the only way we gon recognize you in the crowd..

Your photos are great!

All these people look so nice (and recognizable).
I love how they all look even better with age! Hollywood has nothing on them.

Oh, your photography is hella cool. Are you doing any exhibits soon? Are you gonna be in the Mx80 show?

Hey D, I was at this event and I had a ball. I don't know what happened with Kane, he didn't perform. My only issue with the show was that not enough folks came out to check it. Nice and Smooth was crazy and so was Dana (I loved your guest spot as well), I thought Slick Rick didn't do enough, no la di da di and no Mona Lisa? I also thought Biz mailed his performance in. Whoudini was on point and Grand Master Dee is nasty as ever on the set. I also enjoyed Chubb. Peace party people, ha ha see you later!

Hey D-nice, I miss you guys from back in the day. When are they going to have some of the Fresh Fest concerts in Texas again. I use to go to all the ones they had at the Six Flags over Texas in Arlington. I really miss those days. Please bring them back to Dallas, Tx..

Keep in touch,
Tamiko

Nice work, D! Looks good!

yo d,i'm feeling your websites.good lookin on the fresh fest pics.by the way where's jimmy spicer?

As always, I love coming thru to your spot. And as always you spot has been worth the time! You have enabled those of us who have grown up on what I consider "real hip hop" to be able to see things we may not have necessarily had the opportunity to see. Thank for using your lense eye ang giving us the best of hip hop.

Whenever I come through to your spot, I'm hopeful about the state of hip hop today. I know its not what it once was. At the same time, it shouldn't be. Hip Hop should evolve. And that's what its doing. Not to say that these are hip hop's best years, Not At All. But every one has to go thru an ugly phase when we're growing up. So, that's what hip hop is goiong thru. It's ugly years!

Maybe I can contribut to the cause?

Ok- is this the real "..taking out you suckas and you don't know how I did it..." D-nice's blog? Is this some gibroni wannabe using his name? WTF? I NEED TO KNOW!

It is so lovely to see the likes of Chubb Rock, Monie Love, Greg Nice, Grand Master Dee (mercy! my first hip hop crush), and others still reppin for the old school. Man, this reminds me of my college days and many a house party where those same artist's songs (and yours too, D) would spin and it would be on. Those were truly the days...in life and in hip hop.

I'm in the same time zone wit y'all now!
Right on.
We should collabo on the hip hop version TV special "Where Are They Now?" cuz you know where everybody is WOW! LOL.
I just got caught up with the journal entries
I missed while in transition...
All good stuff, I see.
Keep it comin'.
I'm just gettin' settled in here,
keep it crackin' and bustin' open those doors, D!

Just wanna big you up D-Nice
and all the old school and true
school hip hop forever
can't wait to see the next
fresh fest blast off jam session
keep a brother posted
peace and love always
much respect,
ya boy djmixmasterwayne
peace

Nice. I love the photography. Makes me reminisce on the jams back then.

Yo thanx for reppin friday nite @ Fresh Fest 2005!! The unexpected is what made this event a hot event! Enjoyed havin u do your thing, even if it was only for that moment! We will definitely doin this again soon... Peace

I cannot BELIEVE I have managed to stumble across D-Nice's blog! Oh. my. Goodness. I'm stunned. I'm so disenchnted with today's hip-hop, I think they should call whatever they are doing by another name so as not to disgrace the real folk like you, Rakim, (my man for real and forever), BDK, Whistle, Kevvy Kev, Hev D (now going by Dwight Myers), and all my people. When I saw the pic of Joeski Love (on the Pee Wee side), my eyes almost got misty. For real.

Thanks, D for having a blog and including all the real people that made hip hop a respectable art form. How is Monie Love doing? She had skills and an increidible diction. Look at Wonder Mike! I'm still stunned. I will be visiting this site daily. Your photography is wonderful, clean and crisp. Keep taking those pics. I want to see how the old schoolers are representin' these days. Get a pic of Rakim, would you?

You are one of the smart ones who opened your own businesses. Now that is one thing the new MC's are doing on the regular. They ain't MC'n worth a blank, but every one of them suckas got a clothes line or some other venture. BDK could create his own burgers or sometin'. LOL We got got Buger King (BK), why not BDK. Ain't no half-cookin' no beef! Kidding. He probably would not think that was funny. Seriously though, Jay Z got his start with BDK and his crew. Can't he put him on Def Jam some kind of way? I don't mean as an artist, as something A&Rish or su'in?

Anyway, I'm glad to see your blog, though I must say, for someone who does not have 20/20, the print is so smalllll...
