A View Of New Orleans by Dwayne Hills

A few years ago I met a gentleman from New Orleans by the name of Dwayne Hills through a photography resources website called photosig.com. Dwayne and I conversed weekly about photography and photographic technics.

Unfortunately, Dwayne and his family were affected by Hurricane Katrina and pretty much lost everything. Today, Dwayne sent me some of the images he shot after the disaster and asked me to share them with my friends. Feel free to leave a comment to show Dwayne, his wife, and children support. You can also view more of his images at www.dwaynehills.com

This distructive event has displaced so many families and the thought of this hurts my heart. I know that many people have raised monies and offered donations but there are still so many that are living in devastation. I only pray that we will understand God's lesson though this.
Peace and love to you

PEACE

GOD IS REAL

New Orleans, Mississippi, and Alabama we are praying for you.

I'm with Mrs.Evans......I too have been pretty speechless through this whole ordeal. It's mind boggling...almost overwhelming! I can't believe I planned and paid for a trip to New Orleans for my birthday(July 3) and didn't go. Now I'll never get to see it (as it was, with all that history and historical landmarks). That alone is so unreal to me! All the victims are now and forever in my prayers. Keep the faith and don't give up!! He knows of your struggle just be patient!!!

I just went to New Orleans over the Thanksgiving Day break and while its getting better (Jackson Square is up and mobile) the city is still under ruins and looks like a third war country

Bitter sweet are the times. New Orleans will always be known for life, culture, expression, devastation, and also uncomprehendable pain. My heart goes out to those gone and those blessed to survive. BY THE WAY I LOVE THE DEPT AND TEXTURES AND EMOTIONS EMBODIED BY THE BLACK AND WHITE

D, send my best wishes to Dwanye and his family, i could only imagine what they are going through after that terrible storm. also if you can pass on my infor to dwayne I would like to see more of his work, maybe i can get you and him to Beantown to do some work. keep up the good work. From 1 D to another...Hurricane Hugo(cat 40) hit my city, Charleston, SC several years ago, then on the next week it snowed. A hurricane humbles you because the only solace you have is your life and the presence of God. Once you let go of the material stuff, then you realize the blessings of a fresh start, a new perspective, and the goodness of others. We are better off because of Hugo and believe it or not richer!

D the L.C.again you got some tight ass PIC

I REALLY CAN'T BELIVE THAT SO MUCH HAS HAPPEN TO THE USA YET NONE OF US FALL AS THEY WANT US TO LIKE THEY SAY UNITED WE STAND ALWAYS AND FOREVER GOD BLESS US ALL AND THOSE WHO LIVED THROUGH IT ALL AS THEY SAY WHEN ONE DOOR IS CLOSED THE WINDOW SOME HOW OPENS MUCH LOVE TO YOU ALL

Dwayne, I know there are two sides to Katrina, sadness and joy. Joy to still be here and testify, sadness of the devastation. Lets pray directly for Dwayne, his loved ones and victims. Support KANYE WEST!!! We need more black men to stand up and speak up for what's wrong and right. LIKE SOS, support truth.

Sad, my heart goes out to him and his family. Wish a lot more could be done. From here Ill give my requests to the almighty.
God Bless!

it's always sureal when you see photos and video fotage of new orleans. Like many, I went to the Essence Music Festival in July, and enjoyed my stay in New Orleans. To see some of the streets and places my girlfriend and I visited destoyed, I can't explain the feeling. It was a last minute decision to go to New Orleans, and we are glad we made that choice. Because in life you never know whats going to happen and it confirm to us that we never sould take anything for granted. My prayers go out to all those affected by the Hurricane

dwayne is my uncle...d-nice i wanna thank you for showing your love and support through all that my family and i are going through. from the center (bottom) of my heart...THANK YOU!

I continue to pray for everyone.

Words can not express those fliks. They are really mind blowin. I just wanna say briefly, May God bless you and your family and so the many people who are going thru these rough times. I will continue to pray for all of us. The tiny things we wine about...is really nothing. There is so much for all of us to be greatful for.

Peace & Blessings to everyone.

I really am lost for words after seeing the damage that has been! All we can do is pray, pray, and pray! God is everything and without him we are nothing!

Nice Work with the Fifty Flick (that's whoa)

this is terrible tragedy, we need to look at life how it is and not take our lives for granted and thank GOD for letting us wake up everyday and praise him, good job D-nice keep up the good work.

hey i heard of dnice by koste. im glad you sent me your journal even though i never met you. Your site is nice.

yea i went to mardi gras in 2004 thats just insane how everything happened like that. i hope that everyone is safe and secure.

ps Dwayne Hills please please watermark your photos or at least put a slab over your photos saying hills prop. i mean it only takes a few mins with photoshop. peoplemight use your photos and its not fair when that is your work.

Thank you for sahring you art and reportage through such a life changing time... your courage is felt and the pictures although echo the pain and emptiness of a town temporarily ripped of it's soul, are beautiful and still, full of emotion and a cold, true reflection of the aftermath of natures wrath. I have peace in sprititual fulfillment, your family bond, love and the knowledge that your heart & mind are priceless.

I would like to thank you all for your kind words and prayers, most of all Mr.Derrick Jones for displaying my photos on his site. This tragic event has left my family homeless but not hopeless. Through the help of a Houston attorney Tiffany Reedy and a New York based attorney whom I only know by her first name Keshia we have acquired clothing, furniture and new outlook on life. Despite all the negative publicity African Americans have been recieving in the press (which we know the media only displays the negative) my heart is warm with the unity and sincere compasion I have felt from each of you and those whom have helped me. In conclusion I am blessed to have my health and family - and also the privilege of meeting and befriending you all.

God Bless

As one of the previous comments stated, I am numb and compassion fatigue hardly even fits my crying spells. Dwanyne Hill, I want you to know that we know that the Red Cross just like FEMA is not prepared. I wouldn't be surprise if they take the director of Red Cross out of her seat just as they did Mike Brown, former FEMA director. If your family are not getting the assistance they need, I want you to know that there are organizations and individuals that refuse to send money to Red Cross due to the findings that food and money are not being distributed due to red tape. Please take the time to find churches that are giving money directly to the victims. I reside in Raleigh, NC and my church have adopted some families. The BLACK churches have really done God's work. We have given them new apartments, some fully furnished and some where they picked out their own furniture, new (used) cars, and new jobs. I say that not to boast but to let you know that there are people out here who want to see where their money is going. People can send donations all day but the question at the end of the day: Is the money really getting to the PEOPLE?

God Bless

i just want to say my prayers go out to Dwayne and his family. Only the strong survive. Have faith and things will get better.

i lived in new orleans from 1972-1980, in algiers. it's been difficult and sad to see the city of my youth in such pain. i'm glad she's off the operating table, but there are still a lot of surgeries to go before she's well again. but she'll never be quite back to normal.

Every victim of such tragedies are in my prayers, trust God through it.

When U sleep and wake in the morning, please remember to give thanks to the Almighty...whatever U may call him, Jah, Allah, Christo, Buddha. Be grateful for those less fortunate, because at times we may think things are going bad, but the are many who have have it alot worse.

Peace and Blessings!

I have been pretty much speechless about all of these events since they happened, it's just unbelievable...words don't seem to be enough to express the magnitude of the situation. These photos are extrordinary and I'm glad that Mr. Hills has an outlet to release them to share his visual narration with the rest of us. My heart and prayers go out to his family and all who have suffered loss as a result of this natural and national disaster.

My heart goes out to Dwayne and his Family. I hope that he is able to find order and stability in his life again very soon. I will conitnue to pray for all the Families that were affected by Hurricane Katrina. Please continue and be Strong!!

For everyone who views these pictures..please pray for the victims of Hurricane Katrina and Rita, and for those who aren't..Count Your Many Blessings!
One.
