True Hip-Hop Stories: Dana Dane
I've just completed the second episode of True Hip-Hop Stories. I've decided to start interviewing artists to find out what was the process of recording one of their biggest songs. Yesterday, I met with Dana Dane to discuss the making of his classic hip-hop single "Nightmares". Log onto DTV to view.

Man, you're hitting a major niche market by fusing new media vehicles and modern technology with classic artist. I'm loving the concept of the interview that you did with Dana and with yourself. I've always been a big fan of both of you. But you know what would be fly? I think XXL does a special on classic albums by getting the producers and the artist to talk about how each song came about. You're doing an actual video of the artist talking about a particular song. How about having the artist talk about the entire album's conception? Just a thought, playboy.

This site is the best thing to happen to HipHop. You have touched so many true Hip Hop heads with your stories and the DTV is great. Thanks for keeping Hip Hop alive. Zsazsa Simone aka SIM

D,
I just stumbled onto this page and am very glad I did. It's nice to see I'm not the only one who appreciates good music. Music with passion, music with feeling. I'm stuck in the middle of the country in Indiana but a local DJ played a mix and threw in some "Call Me D-Nice" and I was like wow...music today just ain't got it! That's what got me on this search, to see what you're up to. I'm glad to see you're making a difference. Keep up the good work and if you ever need any insight/help here in the midwest, email anytime.

what i really dig about that interview is listening to him go through the steps of his creative process. it's an empowering thing to see someone as talented as dane lay down his process in such a way as to make folk believe they can be creative on that level, too. he makes it seem doable.

That's what I'm talking about. And at the looks of it, it seems like you're making this on a mac. Which is another plus. I was at JHS 45, off Fordham Road behind White Castle, when "Nightmares" came out. I would love to see a retrospective on what neighborhoods these rappers grew up in. To the street and building number. I just finished reading a biography about AL Pacino's life called "When I knew Al" and it had him hanging out at POE PARK as a struggling actor practicing lines with other struggling actors. This made me feel real in touch with the guy, because I lived right across the street from POE PARK. Though, I think you are on the right track when it comes to interviewing old schoolers, because alot of these new "RAP" fans don't even know who a DANA DANE is. Or WHODINI. OR EVEN MANTRONIX, or T-LA Rock, or in my opinion one of the first Gansta rappers JUST-ICE. Anyways, keep it going. ONE, MIKEBOOGIE70
