Girlz, They Girlz, They Love Me!

I had the chance to hang out with one of my all-time favorite performers, Mr. Dwight Myers, known to the world as Heavy D. On Saturday, we attended a fundraiser in Los Angeles called the Chrysalis Butterfly Ball. It's an annual event that was created to prepare the less fortunate for employment opportunities. Aside from it being one of the most powerful events I've ever attended, it was also one of the most meaningful events as well. This year they honored Mr "Happyness" Chris Gardner, Darren Star, Jennifer Hudson, and Rick Hess of Creative Artist Agency.
The fundraiser was co-chaired by actress Rebecca Gayheart-Dane and 20th Century Fox Television President Dana Walden. Randy Jackson hosted the event, while Tom Cruise, Brett Ratner, Chris Tucker, and Marcia Cross were all presenters. The night concluded with live performances by Jennifer Hudson and Mary J. Blige. Although Jennifer received a standing ovation, Mary J. brought everyone to their feet when she performed her song "Family Affair". As soon as the Dr. Dre crafted beat began playing through the speakers, Chris Tucker, Randy Jackson, and Brett Ratner jumped on the stage and danced like they were on Dancing With The Stars! It was an amazing event and I'm already looking forward to next year's ball. For more info on the Chrysalis organization, log onto www.changelives.org.

What's Good D-Nice!
I have been reading your Blog for a little while now and this is my first time commenting. With the stories and Art (Pictures) Its a sort of window into your past. When I read things from your childhood as well as your time with BDP in the Golden age of Hip Hop, I found my self reminiscing of times past and things that I should have done but never had the heart. You've been successful then and now your on to something and are successful in that. That’s an amazing feat! And it inspires Myself and I'm sure others as well, to take steps forward and not fear a new path in Life. Just showing my Appreciation good brother!

I'm just so proud of your work and this shows many youn folks as well as 'tenderonis' such as myself(age 33) that life happens after rap careers. You've branch off into the possibilties of showing hip hop fans who it can expand and be positive. I have a 12yr old son who love to draw comics books(he's been doing this since the 1st Spiderman movie hit the scene-age 8)& i always tell him to have a back up, broaden you outlook. Thank you black man for showing us as positive, caring, people who love people. Be blessed & atke care of the babies. One

By the way I LOVE that Nee-yo/Fabolous song, too...that's a jam. I thought it was Ginufine at first.
My hubby went back to his bachelor days and bought some turntables so we have the DJ spirit in the house (actually in the garage) now. It's great. He's been brushing up on his skills and in the meantime, I get to play my old albums that I couldn't play before due to no record player.
Anyway, I know you didn't ask all that...but I love that you bring us the other side of "Hollywood" and the positive things that are transpiring. I love seeing images that bring it all home for us such as the softball flick. My baby just finished up her first season of T-ball...she had fun but decided she'd rather do ballet or gymnastics.
Much love to you and Melinda...and that cute little Ms. M;).
