I know that I've been slacking with the journal. It was for great reasons. The last couple of weeks were pretty hectic. I've spun at events all over the country. It started out in Oakland, where I was djing for the Courvoisier tour. After Oakland, I headed to New York to spin for Puff's fragrance release party. Now, that party was serious! I was totally in my zone. I remember at one point, Nelly & Nas came over to the booth to say what's up and to say that they were happy to see I'm doing it as a dj. Diddy himself jumped on the mic while I dropped the hits.
After Puff's party, I headed to Detroit where I djed for Kid Rock's concert after party and the following day I djed the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Super bowl event. The Kid Rock after party was pretty interesting. KR has the most diverse group of friends. It was interesting to be in a room conversing with the legendary DMC, Jimmy Kimmel, Bob Segar, and Tamara Mellon, the woman who owns Jimmy Choo shoes.
The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Super bowl party was hot! Parties like that are fun to dj because I get to play an eclectic mix of music ranging from Jay-Z to Buckcherry. The S.I. team was some of the nicest people to work with. I ended up attending the Super bowl with them. THANKS!
I returned to New York to dj at Cain for my weekly party and then headed out to LA to rock at the Jermaine Dupri and Mariah Carey Grammy party. The party was a great look. It totally didn't go as expected. The party was held at a mansion in Beverly Hills. Things were going well until we received a visit from the Beverly Hills police department. We had to turn down the music after a few sets and eventually we had to completely stop the music because of noise complaints. The best music request came from Kierstan Dunst. All she wanted me to play was 80's music!
The next day I headed to Hawaii, where I djed the Rocawear/S.Carter Pro Bowl party for Kansas City Chief's running back Larry Johnson. That was a great party. I partied with the likes of Warner Music executive Kevin Liles, Atlantic Records executive Mike Kyser, Floyd Mayweather, and quite a few NFL players. Although the trip ended up being incredible, it started off pretty bad.
They initially had me staying at a hotel that was totally unacceptable. The room itself was one of the worst rooms I had ever been in. The room was all wrong starting with the bedspread that was made out of Hawaiian shorts. Then, there was the "Breakfast Bag". Yes, the "Breakfast Bag"! The hotel was without room service, so to make up for the lack of in-room dining, they included a black bag called the "Breakfast Bag" in each room for the hotel guests to go down to the complimentary breakfast buffet held in lobby and pack the bag with food. HA! NO WAY! I ended up switching to a 5 star hotel and from that point on, my Hawaii trip was cool.
Right now, I'm sitting in a hotel room in Houston for NBA All-Star weekend events. Last night I rocked at the Dale Davis party and tonight I'm djing the Kenny Smith party, with Doug E. Fresh rocking the mic. Now, that's old school at it's finest.
