International D - Day One: Paris France

After a 7 hour flight, we finally arrived. What's amazing about my life is that, most times, I never know where I will be a week in advance. This trip was presented to me 5 days ago and now here I am, in the city of love. Although I am without that special person I would love to share this experience with, I plan on making every moment memorable.

I thought I would be able to walk around the city and fully take in the beauty of Paris but, as soon as we checked in our hotel rooms, we had to head over to the television studio to rehearse for the enormously popular "Star Academy", France's version of American Idol. The rehearsal lasted hours.

After the rehearsal ended, I decided to walk around the city and capture a few images. I didn't take as many as I would have loved to because I was exhausted. After 30 minutes, I headed back to the hotel and so that I can catch up on some much needed rest. I slept for maybe 3 hours and then met Puff and the crew at a club called VIP. I will use one word to describe the club... "HOT"! It must have been 150 degrees in there!

Well, my battery is running out, and I am sitting in the lobby of the hotel. Time to go. Enjoy the pics.

International D!

airport1.jpg

I'm sitting at JFK Airport, about to head to Paris to DJ for Puff's television appearances. We will be performing at the Star Academy in Paris and then headed to Denmark to perform at the MTV Europe Video Awards. It's actually my first time going to Paris and please believe I will have plenty of images to upload! I packed 3 cameras, 1 video camera, film, and about 6 memory cards! :-) For some reason, I still feel like I could have packed more. Well, we are off...

Peace!

Back In The Day, When I Was Young, I'm Not a Kid Anymore...

But some days I sit and wish I was a kid again.

Hallelujah! - The Cross Festival

aus-main.jpg

I traveled to Austin, Texas yesterday to DJ at the Zac Posen fashion show. When I arrived at the Four Season's hotel, they informed me that my room wasn't ready for check-in. I decided to take a walk near the lake that was located behind the hotel. While walking, I kept hearing someone sing. Hell, I had nothing to do for the next hour, so I decided to walk in the direction of the singing. The closer I got, the more I was excited about finding out what was going on. When I finally reached the location of the singing, I found out that it was a gospel festival taking place called "The Cross".

They greeted me openly and asked for me to join in the celebration. It was pretty interesting. It was almost like Woodstock, except everyone there was high on Christ! While watching a performance, there was a gentleman the would throw up his hand and scream out "hallelujah"! He did this after every song. Well, I decided that I would wait for him to do it again and photograph him from an angle that would capture the clouds. I must have waited for 20 minutes. When he finally decided to scream "hallelujah", this time he raised both hands, and I finally got the shot I was patiently waiting for!

Hallelujah!
Enjoy

Rehearsal With Diddy

Let me start off by first saying that I am truly enjoying my life. The last 5 days were amazing. It started out on Saturday night with me djing in Indiana for Jermaine O'Neal's birthday celebration. Because of the where the dj booth was located, I was unable to get good pics. I returned home on Sunday evening and visited the Lighty's after they welcomed the newest addition to the clan, Jaden Scott "La Rock" Lighty, born Saturday evening. Congrats Chris & V!

On Monday, I had double dj duty. At the first event, I played for Russell Simmons' HSAN Awards Ceremony. I would like to thank Russell, Valeisha, & Dr. Ben for allowing me to participate with the event. The second event was truly something special! It was the Diddy All-Black Party, sponsored by Vibe! Now, I've djed many events this year and this was my absolute fav! Shout out to my co-dj, DJ Cassidy, Jessica Rosenblum & Len Burnett. The black party was to celebrate the release of Puff's new CD "Press Play".

Now, many people didn't know that Puff (Diddy) selected me & Clinton Sparks to be his official show djs. Last night, after my dj performance at Lincoln Center for the Young Patron's Society, I attended the reheasal for an upcoming television performance. Since I only had one hour before the start of my next personal dj gig at Cain in New York City, I decided to photograph the session.

What Happened To Baby Making Music?

Last night, I was having a conversation with my friend and we were discussing how song lyrics totally dictates how you feel. So many of us learned how to make love by popping in that old Isley Brothers 8-track and slow grinding to groove of "Don't Say Goodnight (It's Time For Love)" or getting it on for the first time while listening to Switch's "There'll Never Be a Better Love" or to The O'Jays' "Forever Mine". How many of you remember the lyrics to Teddy Pendergrass' "Close The Door" or "Come Over To My Place"? How about the lyrics to The Whispers' "Lost and Turned Out", where they sung a sexy ass song about a ho named Olivia that was giving all of her money to a pimp that wanted to buy a new Cadillac Seville? HA! Classic!

Those songs were old when I started listening to them, but they were and still are GREAT! I feel bad for the music listeners of today. As much as I like Omarion and Ne-Yo, I can't play their music when it's time to set the mood. What happened to the grown-folk baby making music?

A Weekend In My Life

How was your weekend? Please allow me to share with you what I had going on. My weekend officially started on Thursday. I was out in Detroit rocking a party with my boy Kenny Burns. Now if you've ever attended a party where Kenny and I both rock, you know that you are going to experience pure good music and a lot of laughs! KB is truly the funniest dude on the mic. While on our way to the event, we drove by an anti-Bush demonstration. Trust me when I tell you... it was serious out there. absolutely no love for G-Dub!

I returned home the next day. What's normally a quick flight ended up becoming a complete nightmare. Our plane had engine trouble, so we ended up sitting in the Detroit airport for 6 hours! Oh well, I used that time to catch up on some reading. I purchased a book on the life of Dr. Ben Carson, the director of the Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins. Man, his life is pretty interesting. I recommend you all read it.

On Saturday morning, I deejayed a charity event, hosted by Lisa Evers and Rick Folbaum of Fox 5 New York. The event, Rhondell's Walk, was to raise funds for research on Crohn's and Colitis. For more info on Crohn's and Colitis, log on to www.ccfa.org.

On Saturday evening, I was on double duty. First, I walked the red carpet at VH1's Hip-Hop Honors and had the chance to catch up with some of my friends. Immediately after that, I joined Wendy Williams and deejayed an event she hosted called "Alize Live" which featured performances by Keyshia Coles and Bobby Valentino. Keyshia is truly a blessed vocalist. And of course, I got busy behind the wheels!

And Sunday... FOOTBALL baby!

Holla!

People I Know

A photographer friend of mine by the name of Jonathan Mannion once told me that one of the reasons he believes I will become a great photographer is because I have access to many people. I didn't fully understand what he meant by that until recently when I found myself having Sunday dinner at the home of Kid Rock. I captured a cool image of K.R. preparing his "infamous" spaghetti sauce.

While at the baby shower of Chris & Veronica Lighty, I captured one of the most loving moments between mother & child. The image of my friend Sophia and her daughter is one of most beautiful images I've ever taken. Most of my favorite pics are candid images of my friends doing what they love. I hope you enjoy my latest series entitled "People I Know".
